18 พ.ค. ศ.นพ.สมศักดิ์ โล่ห์เลขา นายกแพทยสภา เปิดเผยว่า เนื่องจากในขณะนี้เกิดเหตุการณ์ความไม่สงบขึ้นในบ้านเมือง มี การเผายางรถยนต์ในจุดต่างๆ ของกรุงเทพฯและต่างจังหวัด เพื่อให้เกิดม่านควัน โดยอาจไม่ได้คำนึงถึงอันตรายต่อชีวิตและสุขภาพของประชาชน แพทยสภามีความห่วงใยในเรื่องดังกล่าว เนื่องจากการเผายางรถยนต์จะทำให้เกิดสารพิษและสารก่อมะเร็งออกมาในบรรยากาศ ซึ่งเป็นสารที่มีอนุภาคเล็กๆ เมื่อผู้คนที่อยู่บริเวณใกล้เคียงสูดอากาศเข้าไป อาจจะเข้าไปในปอดนอกจากจะทำให้เกิดมะเร็งแล้ว ยังทำให้ผู้ที่เป็นหอบหืด หรือโรคหัวใจ จะมีอาการหอบหืด และโรคหัวใจเพิ่มมากขึ้น โดยเฉพาะในเด็ก หญิงมีครรภ์ และสตรีที่อยู่ในช่วงให้นมลูก เนื่องจากสารพิษจะออกมาพร้อมกับน้ำนมแม่ด้วย
