รศ.พาสน์ศิริ นิสาลักษณ์ รองอธิการบดีฝ่ายบริหารและสภามหาวิทยาลัย มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ในฐานะประธานคณะกรรมการพัฒนาเว็บไซต์มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล กล่าวว่า จากการจัดอันดับ Webometrics Ranking of World Universities ที่จัดโดย The Centre for Scientific Information and Documentation (CINDOC) สภาวิจัยแห่งชาติสเปน (Spanish National Research Council) เมื่อเดือนมกราคม 2553 ปรากฏผลว่า มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดลได้รับการจัดอันดับ 1 ใน 3 มหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำของประเทศไทย และอันดับที่ 381 ของมหาวิทยาลัยโลกที่มีการเผยแพร่ผลงานทางวิชาการผ่านทางเว็บไซต์ ผ่านการลิงก์เว็บไซต์จากทั่วโลก ซึ่งเป็นการแสดงถึงอิมแพ็กของเว็บไซต์มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล และการเป็นที่รู้จัก (Visibility) ในชื่อเสียงเกียรติภูมิของมหาวิทยาลัยสู่สาธารณชนทั่วโลก

Webometrics Ranking of World Universities เป็นดัชนีชี้วัดความสามารถในการผลิตเว็บ พับลิกเคชั่นส์ และความเป็นโอเพ่น แอ็กเซสของมหาวิทยาลัย เป็นการวัดผลงานทางวิชาการที่เผยแพร่บนอินเทอร์เน็ต โดยวัดจากไซส์, วิซิบิลิตี้, ริชไฟล์ และสกอลาร์ จากการจัดอันดับดังกล่าวมีมหาวิทยาลัยในประเทศไทยติดอันดับสูงสุด 5 มหาวิทยาลัย ตามลำดับ ดังนี้ มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ (229) มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ (338) มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล (381) จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย (398) และมหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ (478) ซึ่งการจัดอันดับในครั้งนี้ถือเป็นอีกก้าวหนึ่งที่มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดลขยับเข้าใกล้เป้าหมายการเป็น 1 ใน 100 มหาวิทยาลัยที่ดีเด่นของโลก โดยมหาวิทยาลัยมุ่งพัฒนาข้อมูลอิเล็กทรอนิกส์และการให้บริการผ่านทางเว็บไซต์ให้เพิ่มขึ้น เพื่อเป็นข้อมูลการอ้างอิงและเป็นประโยชน์ต่อผู้เข้าใช้งานมากที่สุด
